Neighbourhood Watch Scheme
Empowering Community, Enhancing Safety
This page outlines the Charlton Hayes Neighbourhood Watch (CHNW) Scheme, designed to create a safer and more connected community.
What We Do
We are a community-driven initiative working in partnership with the police to enhance safety and security in Charlton Hayes. Our goals are to:
• Coordinate: Act as a bridge between residents and the police by sharing information and concerns. We facilitate communication to ensure that community issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
• Inform: Provide residents with resources and guidance on how to report crime and anti-social behaviour. We keep the community informed about the best practices for maintaining safety and security.
• Empower & Support: Foster a supportive community environment where neighbours look out for each other. We aim to empower residents by promoting vigilance and mutual support, thereby strengthening the fabric of our community.
Together, we strive to make Charlton Hayes a safer and more connected place to live. Join us in our efforts to build a stronger, more resilient neighbourhood.
Reporting Crime
CHNW scheme is designed to complement the police, not replace them. It’s crucial to report any crime or suspicious activity directly to the police through the appropriate channels. Rest assured, your identity will remain confidential when you report an incident.
• Emergency: Dial 999 for immediate police assistance
• Non-emergency: For less urgent matters, contact the police on 101 – Ask for the Avon and Summerset Police.
• You can easily and immediately report online: https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report
Remember:
• Every Report Matters: Reporting all suspicious activity, no matter how minor it may seem, helps the police allocate resources effectively. Every report is valuable and can contribute to a broader understanding of criminal activity in the area.
• Build a Complete Picture: The police rely on information from the community to build a comprehensive picture of any potential threats. Your vigilance can provide critical intelligence.
• Document Everything: If an incident isn’t logged on the police system, it essentially didn’t happen. Reporting even minor incidents is important in case they are connected to more serious events in the future.
• Community Safety: By reporting crimes and suspicious activities, you are actively contributing to the safety and security of your neighbourhood. Your participation can make a significant difference.
Neighbourhood Watch Meetings
Join us for quarterly CHNW meetings in conjunction with the local police force at the Parish Council meetings. These gatherings are an invaluable opportunity to:
• Receive Police Updates: Hear the latest updates from the police on local crime trends and statistics.
• Raise Concerns: Share any concerns you have about safety and security in the community.
• Information Sharing: Exchange information and insights within the community to enhance collective awareness.
Building a Stronger Community
The CHNW Scheme is about more than just crime prevention. It aims to foster a sense of community by:
• Promoting Neighbourliness: Encouraging residents to get to know each other and build a supportive network.
• Sharing Information: Providing residents with regular updates on relevant community matters and initiatives.
Parish Council Meetings
Charlton Hayes Parish Council meetings are held at the Aerospace Museum on the third Tuesday of every other month at 7pm. These meetings offer a platform to discuss various community issues, including those related to the NW Scheme.
